For an aqueous tape casting process, processing parameters affecting the dispersibility of barium titanate powders were investigated. Interfacial forces of barium titanate particles suspended in in aqueous media were controlled by varying suspension pH and by the addition of polyelectrolyte dispersants, and subsequently characterized by single-frequency electrokinetic sonic amplitude(XSA) and rheology measurements. The dissolution of barium titanate as it relates to the surface potential of particles in suspension was characterized by electrical conductivity measurements and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy(ICPOES). The dissolution and reprecipitation of barium titanate surfaces was characterized by ESA and correlated with infrared spectrometry and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy-
