4차 산업혁명 시대, 구글 알파벳의 대응 전략 분석 : 자원기반이론(Resource-Based Theory)을 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구는 ICT 분야를 선도하고 있는 Google의 지주회사 Alphabet이 4차 산업혁명 기술과 관련해 자사 경쟁력 강화와 관련 산업을 선도하기 위한 대응 전략을 분석했다. 이를 위해 자원기반이론을 적용하여 기업 내부의 자원 역량을 분석했으며 4차 산업혁명과 관련된기업 결합, 기술 활용 양상 등 경쟁 우위를 위한 대응 전략에 관해 심층적으로 살펴봤다. 분석 결과, 첫째, Alphabet은 ‘인수합병 전략’을 바탕으로 경쟁 환경에 대응하기 위해 기술자원과 인적 자원을 확보했다. 이는 기업 내·외부환경에서 범위 및 규모의 경제를 추구하기 위한 전략으로 볼 수 있다. 둘째, 경쟁력 강화를 위해 부서를 유기적으로 통합 또는 분사시키는 등 ‘조직 활성화 전략’을 펼쳤다. 분석 결과, 로보틱스, 사물인터넷, 가상현실/증강현실, 클라우드, 인공지능 분야가 서로 밀접하게 상호관계가 있는 것을 확인했다. 셋째, Alphabet은 혁신 기술 기업으로 유지하기 위해 ‘혁신 기술 확보 전략’을 펼치고 있다. 이를통해 앞으로 산업 전반 분야에 기술이 핵심적인 역할을 할 것으로 예상되며 이와 관련한내부 자원 확보의 중요성이 높아질 것으로 판단된다.

This study analyzes the strategies of Alphabet which leads the ICT field to enhance its competitiveness and leads related industries in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. For this reason, we apply the resource-based theory to analyze the internal resource capacity of the enterprise, and deeply analyze the strategies of technology combination and technology utilization related to the four industrial revolutions. The analysis shows as follows. First of all, Alphabet has acquired technical resources and human resources to cope with the competitive environment based on the ‘M & A strategy’. This can be seen as a strategy for economies of scale in the internal and external environment of the enterprise. Secondly, an ‘organizational activation strategy’ has been launched in order to enhance competitiveness, including organic integration and decomposition of departments. We also confirmed that the fields of robotics, IoT, VR/AR, cloud and AI are closely related to each other. Finally, Alphabet is embarking on a ‘strategy to ensure innovation and technology’ to maintain its status as an innovation and technology enterprise. It was believed that in the future technology would play a key role in the overall area of industry and the importance of access to relevant internal resources would increase.
