Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the problem of communication among healthcare professionals, who are currently using Medical Information System (MIS) in a large general hospital, through literature review, case study and conducting a survey targeting 107 healthcare professionals. Questionnaires consisted questions evaluating the level of satisfaction in using MIS as a communicating tool and how respondents are practically utilizing the systems. Survey demonstrated that MIS is actively being utilized; nevertheless, the efficiency of internal medical communication is not meeting its requirement level as the users' satisfaction rate (41 out of 107 respondents; 38.3%) was unexpectedly low. Moreover, almost half of physicians and nurses (49.5%) were aware that change of current MIS is necessary as soon as possible. To improve medical communication, future-driven medical equipments and technologies should be adopted in order to modify current MIS. Application to mobile devices, built-in digital dashboard, visual infographic-based software as well as intranet-based messenger system are suggested based on the approach of design perspective. Thus it is necessary to further investigate and develop various methods for facilitating medical communication anywhere in real time.
