Abstract
The purpose of this study is to define the spacial structure of non-linear pathways. Compare with Gride street, non-linear pathways have more degrees of freedom of space, thus, the particle moving on the pathway has the possibility of a shorter route distance to reach destinations. Classically, the grid system has been the easiest to implement but is a confined to movement along the horizontal and vertical axes. To reach a destination in a grid plan, the distance covered while traveling between two points is further than the direct path between them. In non-linear pathways, the distance is reduced by doing away with the grid plan and replacing it with an overlapping series of pathways that trace the linear path between points. While this reduces the distance traveled between points, this has an added benefit of allowing for shorter distances between points that are not represented by the paths. This paper offers insight as to why a non linear network offers greater efficiency of travel in a dense urban environment
