dc.description.abstract | This study examined the educational issues related with the art college admission officer system which had employed Korea in the past decade. In addition, this study dealt with the problem how art teachers could prepare this rapidly changing educational environments. Specifically, the authors attempted to suggest what are the educational experiences students should get and the roles of art teacher in the future art classes. First, current art college educational admission system in Korea resulted in cutting significant amounts of arts performance test. This result cast some doubts for many educational practitioners. The problems included reliability and fairness of admission officer and how one could manage the professional quality of admission officer. Another issues was whether or not students could survive in the art curriculum which emphasized performing aspects, once they were admitted in the college. To minimize these potential educational problems in the secondary school level, art teachers should take active roles. These roles seriously considered for art teachers to include helping students with generating authentic ideas, real life problem solving ability, leadership combined with citizenship, as well as theoretical art domain knowledge and artistic expression capability of communicating with others through artistic medium. This study suggested the consideration of curriculum and extra-curriculum activities to promote those qualities described above. The cases brought up in the paper indicated that students should initiated their educational processes with positive emotion and teacher provided various educational art experiences within multiple authentic contexts. Conclusively, the future success of admission officer system hinges upon the educational changes in art classroom. | - |
