This paper mainly discusses the ethical problems caused by the special relationships between the subjects and the filmmaker throughout the autobiographical documentary production process. In a autobiographical documentary dealing with members of the filmmaker’s family —the relationship between the filmmaker and the subjects is one of the chief ethical constraints, raising such concerns as the parameters of accessibility, consent and privacy. These primarily include the nature of the subject, the proposed methodology, the intent of the filmmaker, and the relationship between the filmmaker and the subjects. The particularity of the family relationships between the filmmaker and subject (family) became the main issue. I would like to examine the ethical problems that occurred within the family associated with an autobiographical documentary. Specifically, I would like to explain: (1) why filmmaker did not request consent from any family member prior to making the film (issue of consent) and (2) why filmmaker have not shown the film to their family (issue of disclosure) I want to call attention to the gap between customary documentary practice and the model embodied in the ethical guidelines — especially within informed consent, disclosure and director motive issues. The paper will primarily deal with the ethical guidelines of prior consent and disclosure of personal documentaries that deal with families.-
