This study investigates Korean attitudes toward English learning and use with kindergarten parents as its participants. In a qualitative research format, the study interviewed 18 kindergarten parents in a conversation style semi-structured setting for their attitudes to English learning and use. For better elicitation of the participating parents' reactions on the topic, guiding questions were formed centering around kindergarten English education as in 1) its necessity and goals, 2) its contents and methods, 3) related current issues, and 4) suggestions. The recorded interviews were transcribed and analyzed for themes and patterns. From the analysis three patterns emerged. First, the parents pursue English as a crucial auxiliary skill which should be learned without causing much interference in being Korean. Second, the parents anticipate emergence of a Korean elite group which is distinguishable by its proficient English ability. Last, the parents' attitudes to English learning and use are emotional, resulting from their past frustration regarding it. Based on the result, this study suggests reassessment of the Korean situation with English learning and use before making aggressive English campaigns. More research with various demographic participants is also suggested.-
