Fence-type aluminum electrode was prepared on soda-lime glass substrate by chemically etching aluminum foil which was bonded to the substrate via anodic-bonding process. Several different designs of the fence-type sustaining electrode were attempted and its effects on optical transmittance were examined. Test panels with those fence-type aluminum electrodes were prepared and their firing voltages, luminance and luminance efficiency were measured and compared with conventional ac-PDPs. The results demonstrated a possibility of using aluminum electrode for front plate of ac-PDDs. © 2008 SID.-
