dc.description.abstract | On the point of subject matter of novel, Dong-hak is the one of the historical events that has been dealt repeatedly. In this paper, I am going to examine closely the characteristics of Dong-hak in korean modern novels. In the Shin-soseul(신소설) of the Enlightment period, the characteristics of Dong-hak was not understood deeply. Furthermore, in the most cases, Dong-hak was overlooked. I think it was because of the blind passion for western civilization. The characteristics of the Shin-soseul of the Enlightment period are the core of the thereafter Dong-hak novels. Novels before Haebang(해방) had dealt the Dong-hak after the Gap-o peasant war. In those novels, the political revolutionality of Dong-hak was extensively weakened. Roughly typizing, Dong-hak in those novelshad two characteristics. That of the orientization for civilization and that of criticism about the blind following for western society and culture. Although these are less politically revolutionary than Dong-hak movement itself, but are deeply related to the core of Dong-hak. Now, the korean novel must undertake the duty to understand and depict Dong-hak through the new eyesight. For this, it is needed to go over the popular viewpoint. Then, We can go over the level that see Dong-hak as the past historical event. | - |
