- Abstract
- Lee, Kwan-kyu. 2002. Different Views on the Scope of Adverbial Clauses in Korean. Korean Journal of Linguistics, 27-3, 399-416. This paper aims at exploring different views on the scope of adverbial clauses in Korean and at figuring out what their limitations are. We can distinguish three large groups of approaches to the classification of adverbial clauses, depending on how many different categories of coordinate and subordinate clauses are posited. The first group thinks adverbial clauses, coordinate clauses and subordinate clauses differently. The second group views adverbial clauses and subordinate clauses as same clauses, that is, adverbial clauses. Lastly, the third group regards three kinds of clauses as one clauses, adverbial clauses. In this paper, it is shown that the second approach can provide the most appropriate classification of adverbial clauses in Korean. (Hongik University)
