A possibility of using 12CaO7Al(2)O(3) electride as electron emission layer of PDP discharge cells was explored. The synthesized compound was converted to electride via reduction method and its electron emission behavior during the glow discharge was measured The results indicated that the electride is effective in reducing firing voltage of discharge gases of high Xe content. Its thermal stability, however, was not adequate for an actual application of the material. A possibility of enhanced thermal stability of the electride was demonstrated by alloying the compound with Mg.-
