Abstract
This paper presents a compact self-powered IoT sensor module with a radio-frequency (RF) transmission range of a few hundred meters. Magnetic energy from power lines was harvested using an efficient switching circuit and a low duty sensing operation without a battery was achieved for extended hours. A ferrite split core was used to allow live-line installation without causing a power outage. Low power sensors, such as a temperature sensor and a current sensor, were integrated in the module for monitoring the power lines. It demonstrated a real time temperature monitoring and thus dynamic line rating for optimal network operation can be achieved. © 2022 IEEJ.
