- Abstract
- Sejong City was built with the vision of relieving overcrowding in the metropolitan area and balanced nationaldevelopment and was promoted through an international competition. The process of applying the ideal international competitionproposal to the reality was not easy, particularly in neighborhood unit. Meanwhile the efforts to create a pedestrian-friendlyneighborhood have continued in the history of the construction of New towns in Korea. Sejong City is the latest case amongthese attempts. In this paper, I would like to examine how the preceding concept was materialized in the formation of thecurrent situation of a neighborhood unit in Sejong City through walkability perspectives. through an analysis framework createdwith reference to prior studies, the preceding plan of the study area was reviewed from the walkability perspectives. And thecurrent situation of the physical neighborhood walking environment was identified and analyzed, based on the contents of thedistrict unit plan and the field observation survey. In the district unit plan, the central area of public convenience facilities wasmoved closer to the public transportation axis and the block size was reduced and the intersection density was increased. As aresult, a more advantageous structure was created in terms of walkability. In a follow-up study, it is expected to be conducteda comparative study between neighborhood units for a more objective point of view in creating a pedestrian-friendlyenvironment in neighborhood unit.
