dc.description.abstractThe paper will illustrate the reason to choose a reinforced concrete connection as the title of this research. The research of reinforced concrete connection should be preceded to prevent progressive collapse under an extreme load especially a fire. For controlling progressive collapse, it would be critical to study a catenary action. To do conduct numerical analysis, a commercial finite programme, namely TNO DIANA, was used. In this paper, two models to find out concrete cracks were considered. Among them, smeared crack model was used as it can be expressed by making and dispersing cracks easily using FEM programme. The compressive and tensile behaviours of concrete were applied when the temperatures were increased. Specific models that the convergence errors could be decreased in all model were adopted. Also to choose mesh size, mesh sensitivity study was conducted comparing simulation data. In the frame behavior at high temperatures, the study of a catenary action should be carried out. The research proposed that new theory was needed in the analysis methods at high temperatures. Excessive safety factors were considered in prescriptive design and when the fire of a real structure was made, extra load bearing capacity could be illustrated.-
