Korea has the geographical characteristics of the sea on three sides, the mountains in the north and east, and the flatland in the west. In addition, winds such as westerlies and Monsoon blow differently by wind direction from region to region due to their geographical characteristics. However, the Korea Design Standard 41 12 00: 2019 stipulates that the basic design wind speed is uniform in all directions, which can be overestimated for wind direction with relatively weak winds. In this regard, the wind directionality factor is applied for a reasonable design in the Korea Design Standard 41 12 00: 2022. This study calculated wind directionality factor and the wind speed for 1-year return period for serviceability design by collecting 10 years of data from 8 locations. In previous studies, the wind speed for 1-year return period was calculated using the daily maximum wind speed provided by the Korea Meteorological Administration. But there may be missing wind speeds for a specific wind direction. Therefore, considering this, the daily maximum wind speed of all wind directions was obtained using the 10-minute mean wind speed data, and the wind speed for 1-year return period was calculated through the Weibull’s distribution. The wind directionality factor obtained from daily maximum wind speeds provided by the Korea Meteorological Administration was compared with that based on the 10-minute mean wind speed data, and then the difference between the two methods was analyzed.-
