- Abstract
- Multilateralism is one of the theories of international politics, and since the post-cold war, it has become a common form of cooperation in the international community. The ultimate goal of multilateralism in pursuing common interests through multilateral cooperation is the stability and peace of the international community. Multilateralism has the basic principles of spontaneity, equality and diversity, and components of common interest, principles and institutions, and comprehensive reciprocity. These concepts are universal values of the international community, and it may be the basis for analyzing the unilateral nature and unpeacefulness of regional solidarity and integration initiatives by modern and contemporary Japan. In this paper, the initiatives of regional solidarity and integration in modern and contemporary Japan known as the theory of Asian solidarity, the theory of Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity, and the initiatives of regional economic integration in postwar are analyzed by the international political theory of multilateralism. Through this study, the various aspects of the modern and contemporary Japanese regional initiatives are theoretically revealed. Using the methods of a qualitative analysis and a comparative analysis about the literature materials, the subject of the research is analyzed from theoretical and practical points of view, and through this study, I systematically draw the fact that the regional solidarity and integration initiatives of modern and contemporary Japan have elements of unilateralism, coercion, discrimination, and unpeacefulness.
