- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to figure out the influences of the lexicalization patterns of Korean on the description of motion events in English among Korean ELF learners. This study is based on the language typology of Talmy (2000b), and the participants are 60 college students. The findings of this study are as follows. First, Korean EFL learners tend to use manner verbs to describe motion events when the motion events are described with Manner, Path, and a deictic verb in Korean. However, they are likely to use manner verbs in a gerundive form with deictic verbs if the motion events are described with Manner and deictic verbs. Second, Korean EFL learners prefer the combination of a deictic verb and a path particle to a path verb in English when the Korean motion event is expressed with a subordinary complex motion verbs.
