Abstract
Fused Deposition Manufacturing (FDM) is effective for the production of complex shapes as well as thesmall quantity production of various types. Generally the FDM uses thermoplastic materials, such as polylacticacid (PLA), which is environmentally friendly and has good mechanical properties at room temperature. However, PLA undergoes hydrolytic degradation in moisture environments. Thus, research on the propertydegradation of PLA under accelerated aging conditions is required. This study investigates the acceleratedaging behavior of FDM-fabricated PLA and the decay of mechanical properties based on build orientation. Accelerated aging conditions were applied to evaluate and compare the reduction of mechanical properties inboth vertical and horizontal orientations. This research provides essential insights into improving the durabilityof 3D-printed polymer structures, thereby enhancing the reliability and expanding the applications of 3Dprinting technology.
