- Abstract
- This study explored instructional strategies of a successful youth sport center called ‘For All’. Case studydesign was employed with multiple in-depth interviews with teachers, children, and parents. Other sources ofdata included observations and documents. Content analyses resulted in six categories of instructional strategies.
First, the principal teacher had unique teaching philosophy which influenced various aspects of instructionsuch as assessment, teaching, teacher traniing, and evaluation. Second, For All developed its own computreizedfitness and physical development analysis tools, Health and Growth Development Management Systemand used it in a various aspects of instruction. Third, all instruction programs were classified with developmentalstages in mind. Fourth, teachers emphasized social and psychological development of the students throughencouragement and support. Fifth, achievement goals and standards were given very specifically for each class.
Last, the teachers showed continued effort to enhance their professional skills and knowledge. The six instructionalstrategies were logically linked to five teaching knowledge; (a) knowledge of instructional goals, (b)content knowledge, (c) knowledge of learner and their characteirstics, (d) pedagogical content knowledge ,and (e) knowledge of reflective teaching. The findings would extend knowledge of expert teacher in physicaleducation to outside of school settings.
