Sodium bromate is an oxidizing agent used as a permanent wave neutralizer in a household.
Sodium bromate intoxications occurred in children incidentally and in adult for the
purpose of suicide. This chemical intoxication result in renal failure, ototoxicity, neurotoxicity
and so on. We experienced a 33-years old female hairdresser, who was admitted due to
nausea and vomiting after ingestion of sodium bromate. The patient was successfully treated
with 2 times of hemodialysis therapy and renal function recovered without any complication.
Clinician should take early therapeutic measure, including hemodialysis therapy in
acute renal failure due to bromate intoxication.
Key Words: Sodium bromate, Acute Renal Failure, Hemodialysis
