- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to categorize the secondary gifted students' concepts of self-control through metaphor analysis and searching for more confidential direction of self-control education in secondary gifted education. The study method was a phenomenology design; a qualitative approach was used with content analysis for analyzing metaphors in the research. The data were collected from 145 gifted students attending 6th, 7th, and 8th grades at Elazig Science and Art Center(BILSEM) in Turkey. The results, first, gifted students generated 57 metaphors related to self-control and then metaphors were classified into five categories. All the metaphors indicated positive concepts for self-control. Next, the chi-square test was applied to determine whether categories were different in term of gender, grades, and parent's education level. it was found that they did not differ according to gender. As for grades, graders showed differences in two categories. Finally, the father's education level had differences in the nature feature category. Further studies may focus on the effects of personal characteristics, school and home environment.
