dc.description.abstract | This article analyzed the transmission and variation of epigraph, from <Gouloubei> of Mt. Hengsan, in China, to <Daehan Pyeongsu tochanbi> in Korea. The <Gouloubei> of Mt. Hengsan is known to have been measured and engraved by King Yu(禹), but there has been controversy over whether it was really made by him. Nevertheless, <Gouloubei> has a distinct historical value, as there is an official record of its existence, since the period of Liuchao. Hezhi(何致) of Song dynasty copied <Gouloubei> and engraved it in Mt. Yuelu(岳麓山). Since then, the copies of it were set up all over the country. Like these, <Gouloubei> had tredendous impact on later artists. Based on the existing records, the rubbing of <Gouloubei> is regarded to be introduced in Korea during the reign of King Hyojong(孝宗). Yunhyu appreciated <Gouloubei> during the reign of King Hyojong. Then Lee u(李俁) bought a rubbed copy of Xinquan shuyuan(新泉書院) from China, and showed it to Heo mok(許穆), during the reign of King Hyunjong(顯宗). Afterwards many writers including, Hong huiho(洪羲浩), Seo Myeongeung(徐命膺), Lee seogu(李書九), Lee gwangsa(李匡師), Nam gongcheol(南公轍), Kim jeonghui(金正喜), and Lee gyugyeong(李圭景) possessed <Gouloubei> or made a review of it. However it received mostly negative reviews from calligraphers of the late period of Joseon. Meanwhile, in Korea, <Pyeongsu tochan bi(平水土贊碑)> was placed, modified from <Gouloubei> of China. Admired by Dayu souzhuan(大禹手篆) of <Gouloubei>, Heo mok set up <Pyeongsu tochan bi)> after collecting 48 words among its original 77 words. Afterwards, <Pyeongsu tochan bi> was well-received in Joseon and re-engraved within the palace and in some regions. <Daehan Pyeongsu tochan bi>, the final edition, was set up in Samcheok(三陟) in the late period of Joseon. | - |
