농촌거주 다문화 가정의 자녀출산과 양육경험: 결혼이주여성과 시어머니의 목소리를 중심으로

Abstract

오늘날 다문화 가정의 결혼이주여성들은 자녀를 출산하고 양육하는 과정에 대한 어려움을 공통적으로 호소하고 있는데 그 배경에는 다양한 맥락적 요인들이 얽혀 있을 것이라 사료된다. 더욱이 시부모와 동거하는 비율이 높은 농촌지역의 경우, 자녀 양육에 있어 모성이라는 성역할을 공유하는 시어머니와 결혼이주자 어머니의 관계적 역학은 이들 가정의 건강한 적응 그리고 자녀의 건강한 발달에 지대한 영향을 미치는 맥락적 요인이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 한국 농촌지역의 다문화 가정을 대상으로 결혼이주여성의 자녀출산과 양육과정에서 경험하는 어려움과 더불어 다문화 가정의 한국인 조부모가 경험하는 손자녀 양육과 며느리와의 관계 맺기의 어려움, 즉 이 두 모성의 주체자 간의 관계적 갈등에 초점을 두고 분석되었다. 이를 위하여 농촌지역에 거주하는 다문화 가정의 동일가족체제의 시어머니 5인과 결혼이주자 며느리 6인을 대상으로 총 4개월에 걸친 심층면담자료가 수집되었고, 수집된 자료는 현상학적 연구방법을 적용하여 분석되었다. 그 결과 의미 있는 10개의 주제와 3개의 범주로 분류되었고 임신시기의 어려움, 자녀 출산 후 자녀양육 갈등, 그리고 건강하지 못한 적응전략이 주요 주제로 도출되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 농촌거주 다문화 가정의 자녀출산과 양육과정에 대한 학계의 이해를 증진시킬 것이며 나아가 유아교육전문가들의 교육적 그리고 사회적 중재방안의 도출을 위한 기초자료로 그 활용가치가 있다.

Immigrant mothers in Korea have expressed their difficulties in child birth and rearing processes as well as their adjustment to new environments. Also, in a multicultural families married to foreign women, the ratio of multicultural families considering their Korean parents in rural areas is higher than those from the metro areas and also from the non-immigrant families in Korea. This unique-demographic structure represents the gender-role competing situations between the immigrant mothers and their Korean-mother-in-laws, and the situation's significant influence on healthy adjustments of their family members including their children. However, a lack of research has been conducted on this topic in Korea. The purpose of this study is to investigate the difficulties and dynamics of child birth and rearing processes in the rural-multicultural families in Korea, focusing on the voices of the immigrant mothers and their Korean-mother-in-laws. The authors conducted multiple ethnographic interviews with 6 pairs of immigrant daughters-in-laws and their Korean mother-in-laws from August 1 to November 30, 2011. The phenomenological analysis produced 10 nodes and 3 grand themes, including difficulties during the prenatal period, difficulties and conflicting dynamics between daughter-in-laws and their Korean-mother-in-laws in their child/grandchild rearing processes, and the unhealthy conflict-resolution strategies adopted by the multicultural families. These results might be informative to the academic fields of as well as the service professionals in Korean early childhood education.
