기생 「康春紅小傳」 연구

Abstract

일제강점기 구활자본 소설 李海朝의 女의 鬼 康明花實記 下(1925) 에는 부록으로 기생이야기 「康春紅小傳」, 「李花蓮小傳」 등 2편이 함께 게재되어 있다. 왜 부록에 ‘小傳’ 형식이 있을까? 또한 이 작품의 존재는 어떻게 파악해야 하는가? 이에 대한 문제 제기를 하고자 하는데 이 글의 목적을 둔다. 「강춘홍소전」의주인공, 기생 康春紅은 실존 인물이다. 여의 귀 강명화실기 하 부록에 수록되어 있는 「강춘홍소전」은 ‘小傳’ 형식으로 일제 강점기 권번 기생의 이야기이다. 「康春紅小傳」은 강명화실기만큼 스토리텔링으로 삼기에는 많이 부족한 이야기이다. 이 때문에 이해조는 이를 ‘小傳’으로 명명한 이유가 아닐까 한다. ‘小傳’의형식은 인물의 일대기 중심으로 짧은 스토리, 즉 딱지본 소설만큼 짧기 때문이다. 결론적으로 이해조의 「강춘홍소전」 작품은 강명화 실화를 권선징악이라는교훈적 틀에 맞추어 재구성한 작품이다. 그는 강명화 이야기의 교훈적, 계몽적측면을 부각하기 위한 수단으로 허구적 정황을 첨부하여 독자들의 직접적인 각성을 유도한다. 귀신 이야기를 제목과 서두에 배치하여 독자들의 경각심을 불러일으키는 것은 결국 악행을 경계하라는 고유한 목적을 염두에 둔 구성이다. 이때의 재구성이란 실화가 지닌 골격과 주제를 기본 틀로 하고, 여기에 작가의 상상력을 가미하는 방식으로 이루어지나, 후자의 역할이나 영향력은 극히 미미하다고 할 수 있다. 그만큼 이해조는 실화가 지닌 고유한 이야기 구조를 그대로 차용하여 문학의 계몽적 기능을 최대치로 끌어올리는 데 강명화 이야기를 이용하고 있다 이는 최찬식의 강명화전 을 비롯한 딱지본 소설에서 공통적으로 발견되는 특징이다. 많은 실화 가운데 신소설 작가들이 유독 강명화 이야기에 집중한 이유 또한 그것이 당대 대중들의 기대에 부응할 만한 계몽적 요소를 지녔기때문이다.

In the appendix of Lee Hai-jo’s novel, The Ghosts of Women, Gangmyunghwa’s non fiction story(last volume, 1925), written during the Japanese occupation of Korea there are two works about Gisaeng‘s story, or 「Gangchunhong’s short story」, 「Leehwayun’s short story」. We wondered that why there’re style of ‘short story’ in appendix and how we understand the exist of this work. This study aimed at presentation of problem about this theme. Gangchunhong, the Gisaeng, main character of 「Gangchunhong’s short story」 is a non fiction person. The work involves the 「Gangchunhong’s short story」 that is contained in appendix of Ghosts of women, Gangmyunghwa’s non fiction story(last volume) have a type of ‘short story’ and story of Gwonbun Gisaeng’s story in the period of Japanese occupation. 「Gangchunhong’s short story」 is estimated somewhat deficient compared with Gangmyunghwa’s non fiction story. Probably because of this reason Lee Hai-jo named it ‘short story’. ‘Short story’ means short story in and around of character’s life story, and short as well as novel of ‘Ddakjibon’. In conclusion, 「Gangchunhong’s short story」 written by Lee Hai-jo is a reorganized work of Gangmyunghwa’s non fiction story that is fitted mold at lesson like ‘the good triumphing over the evil’. As a way of to highlight the aspect of moral or enlightening of Gangmyunghwa’s non fiction story, he wanted to superadd fictional situation and induce direct awakening of readers. By setting ghost story at the beginning and title intended to arose readers attention, finally aimed at classical theme that is ‘take warning evil deed’. At this point, reorganization is based on frame and theme that have non fiction story, and can add writer’s imagination, but its role or influences are imperceptible. Like that, Lee Hai-jo by borrowing story structure that have non fiction stories wanted to use Gangmyunghwa’s non fiction story for maximize enlightening function of literature. This is a common feature that appeared in novel of ‘Ddakjibon’ including ‘Gangmyunghwa’s story’ by Choichansik. The reason of why especially focused on ‘Gangmyunghwa’s story’ during many non fiction stories is that have enlightening element that can come up to expectation of the public at that time.
