사용성 향상을 위한 스마트폰 GUI 디자인 연구- 노년층(60세 이상)을 중심으로 -

Abstract

본 연구에서는 노년층이 원활하게 스마트폰을 사용하게 하기 위한 두 가지 요소를 분석하였다. 첫째, 노년층의 신체적, 인지적 특성을 이해하고 고찰하였으며 둘째, 스마트폰의 인터페이스의 사용성을 분석하였다. 위의 두 가지 특징을 통해 노년층이 편리하게 사용할 수 있는 GUI 디자인을 살펴보려 한다. 먼저 60세 이상 노년층이 스마트폰 기능 중 주로 사용하는 기능이 무엇인지 알아보았고 이를 분석한 결과 음성통화와 사진 촬영이었다. 또한 제안한 사용성 평가 가이드라인을 적용하여 선정된 두 가지 기능의 세부 Task를 실행하는 인터페이스 사용성 평가를 실시하였다. 조사 결과를 분석하여 사용자의 만족도에 대해 알아보았으며 스마트폰 인터페이스 디자인의 문제점을 확인하였다. 그 결과, 첫째 사용자들은 일관성이 있고 효율적으로 조작할 수 있는 인터페이스 디자인을 선호하였다. 둘째, 인터페이스 디자인의 문제점으로 우선 음성통화 기능과 관련해 연락처에 있는 정보를 검색할 때 텍스트 서체와 글자 크기 때문에 가시성이 떨어지고, 홈 화면에 전화 버튼을 찾을 때 아이콘의 사이즈가 작아 에러(error)가 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 또 색채 때문에 카메라 아이콘이나 사진 촬영 메뉴를 식별하기 어려운 경우가 빈번히 발생하였다. 이로써 스마트폰 인터페이스 디자인의 개선 필요성이 제시되었고, 노년층의 특성을 감안해 단순한 구조와 직관적인 표현으로 정확한 정보를 전달해야 함을 가리키는 결과이다. 구체적으로는 아이콘의 크기, 텍스트의 서체와 크기, 사진 찍는 메뉴 등의 디자인 개선방안과 실험을 통한 노년층 인터페이스 디자인 개선안의 개발 필요성이 확인되었다.

This study was to analyze two factors that convenient for the elderly to use smart phones. First, physiological and cognitive characteristics of the elderly were learned and analyzed, and then, the smart phone's interface usability was also analyzed. Analyzing the above two points is to identify the best smart-phone GUI design for the elderly. Frist of all, According to the survey of some old people who are over 60, the two most commonly used functions were voice call and camera. In addition, the interface usability of the selected functions was evaluated by the usability standard that is given. Through the survey, We can see the satisfaction of users and the problems when old people are using smart phones. Specially first, users preferred a consistent and efficient GUI design. Second, some problems were discovered. in the GUI of Phone functions, due to the font and text size, the visibility of text is very low. In addition, when the elderly look for the phone button on the home screen, and because of the color of camera icon or photo menu, it was difficult to identify them for the elderly. Overall, it is necessary to design the smart phone interface, and according to the characteristics of the elderly, it is turned out that the elderly need the interface with a simple and intuitive expression structure to convey information. Especially, it was necessary that the improvement plan of graphic interface design for the old people was given by improving the icon size, text font and size, camera menu.
