미국의 패션 디자인 교육 과정에 대한 연구-의복구성 교육을 중심으로

Abstract

급속한 세계화와 정보화는 패션 산업의 활성화로 이어졌고, 새로운 패러다임에 적응할 수 있는 창조적인 인력을 필요로 하고 있다. 패션 디자인은 사회·경제·문화적 요인의 영향을 많이 받기 때문에 패션교육기관의 교육과정에서도 더욱 많은 변화를 요구하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 선행연구와 시대적으로 그 중요성이 부각되고 있는 의복구성 분야에 중점을 두고, 비즈니스 지향 및 창의성 개발을 중요시하는 미국의 패션교육기관의 의복구성 교육과정과 교육체계를 연구하였다. 그 결과 미국의 주요 패션교육기관은 기초영역부터 심화과정까지 의복구성 교육과정이 어패럴 디자인 위주로 진행이 되고, 시장세분화에 맞추어 교과목이 세분화되어 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 업체와의 연계 교육도 잘 이루어지고 있음이 인지되었다. 이러한 고찰을 바탕으로 의복구성 교육의 특성화를 유도하면서 글로벌 전문 인력을 양성할 수 있는 의복구성 교육 모델을 제시하였다. 이는 미래적인 교육과정 개발 및 한국 패션 디자인 교육의 방향을 제시하였다는데 의의가 있다고 본다.

Rapid globalization and development of information technology led to the expansion of the fashion industry; the need for creative workforce has increased to adept to the new paradigm. Because social, economic, and cultural factors highly influence the field of fashion design and industry, the fashion educational system calls for a change in its curriculum to meet the demands of producing creative workforce. This study focused on contemporary importance of emerging field of clothing construction, with an emphasis on business and the development of creativity, and investigated America’s fashion education institutions’ clothing construction specialized courses and their training system. America’s leading fashion education institutions focuses on apparel design as a center in both basic and intensive clothing construction courses, and they are subdivided into different courses to follow the current trend of global market. It was also noted that there was a firm connection between various fashion industries and the fashion education institutions. Using these institutions as a reference, a new curriculum for clothing construction education was designed to induce specialized courses for clothing construction and to train students into professionals in the global market. Thus, there is significance in developing this futuristic fashion design education curriculum and ultimately changing the prospect of Korean fashion education program.
