The study intends to understand how the various types of unit organization generate different spatial properties in the apartments. For the purpose, various types of apartments are analyzed based on the theory of Space Syntax. In the early stage of Korea, the stair-type and corridor-type of unit organization had appeared more frequently. As the quantity of the apartments became more enlarged, however, the stair-type appeared more dominant due to the general belief that it can provide the living unit more privacy and more living area. On the other hand, the corridor-type have been used more sparsely. More recently, the corridor-type is applied mainly to the apartments consisting of relatively small size living units or the rental based public apartments only. This study has analyzed the spatial properties of some apartments by using the convex analysis method. The analysis of domestic apartments shows that the common spaces of the stair-type apartments are more segregated than those of the corridor-type apartments. By contrast, the selected apartments of other countries designed by architects show various utilization of the common spaces by using diverse interpretations of the relationship between the living units and the common spaces. If the apartments has a chance to employ more diversified interpretation of the unit organization, the study suggest, the apartments can provide the users more profound understanding of the sense of community.-
