다문화 정보 그림책을 활용한 유아 다문화 교육이유아의 다문화 인식에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 유아 다문화 교육을 위한 다문화 정보 그림책을 개발하고 그 효과를 검증하는 것이다. 본 연구의 대상은 어린이집 만 5세 세 개 학급 유아 59명이다. 실험집단에게는 본 연구자가 개발한 일본, 중국, 베트남, 필리핀, 태국의 문화에 대한 정보를 제공하는 정보 그림책 읽기 활동을 주 2회 총 16회 실시하였으며 비교집단 유아에게는 다문화 사진 자료를 활용한 다문화 교육활동을 주 2회 총 16회 실시하였다. 연구 결과 다문화 정보 그림책 읽기를 적용한 실험집단의 사후 문화개방성 점수, 사후 문화수용성 점수 그리고 사후 문화존중성 점수가 다문화 사진을 활용한 유아 다문화 교육활동을 적용한 비교집단의 사후 문화개방성 점수, 사후 문화수용성 점수 그리고 사후 문화존중성 점수보다 통계적으로 유의미한 수준에서 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과는 다문화 정보 그림책을 이용한 다문화 교육이 사진 자료를 이용한 다문화 교육 보다 다문화 인식 증진에 더 효과적임을 시사한다.

This study investigates the effects of multi-cultural information picture books on young children's multi-cultural awareness. It develops eight multi-cultural picture books about six countries which represent the majority of multi-cultural families in Korea: Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, and Filipino. The participants of the study were 59 five-year-olds from one preschool in Kyungsang Province. The children were divided into three groups: an experimental, a comparison group, and a control group. The experimental group received multi-cultural education based on multi-cultural information picture books. The comparison group received multi-cultural education based on pictures. Finally, the control group received no treatment. A series of ANCOVA analyses were conducted to examine the effects of the treatment on young children. The results revealed statically significant differences across the groups regarding their multi-cultural awareness. More specifically, the experimental group earned higher scores than the other two groups in all three areas. The results indicate that multi-cultural picture books are effective educational materials for multi-cultural education for young children.
