일제강점기 기생의 권번시조 연구 -『조선미인보감』(1918년)과 『가곡보감』(1928년)을 중심으로-

Abstract

이 논문은 일제 강점기에 발행된 『조선미인보감』의 창작시조 22수와 『가곡보감』의 시조 276수를 ‘권번시조’ 유형으로 설정이 가능한 것인지를 검토하고자 하였다. 일제강점기 기생의 권번은 기능면에서 전통예능 교육의 산실이었다. 각종 공연을 통하여 전통예능 교육의 기능을 담당했기 때문이다. 권번시조 중에 권번을 소개하는 창작 시조는 문답의 전형적인 대구 형식으로 영원히 번창하리라는 기원을 담고 있다. 또한 牧丹花, 菊花, 月桂花, 海棠花, 百花 등과 권번들을 환유하는 표현으로 비유한다. 이 시조들은 당시 시가 작가들이 전문적인 문인이 아니라, 일반 지식인들의 작품처럼 비전문적이다. 권번의 기생을 소개하는 창작시조의 특징은 妓名을 詩語로 환유하거나 중의적인 비유법을 즐겨 사용한다. 그러면서도 조선 전기에 형성된 시조의 원래 형태들을 최대한 유지하고 일제 강점기의 시대적 성격을 상응하는 권번을 소개하는 창작의 시조를 확인했다. 이러한 일제강점기 권번시조의 특성을 살피는 연구는 시조문학사와 한국문학사의 보완을 위하여 의미가 있다.
