학교폭력 이슈에 대한 보도경향 분석 : 1997년~2012년 종합일간지와 교육전문지 뉴스보도를 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구는 국내 주요 일간지와 교육전문지가 학교폭력 문제를 어떠한 관점으로다루고 있는지를 분석하였다. 분석대상 일간지는 <조선일보>, <동아일보>, <경향신문>, <한겨레>, 교육전문지는 <한국교육신문>과 <교육희망>이었다. 분석 시기는 학교폭력이 사회적으로 중요하게 이슈화된 3개 시기(1997년, 2005년, 2011/2012년)이었으며, 이 시기에 포함된 학교폭력 관련 기사 784건을 추출하여 기사에 나타난 뉴스프레임을 분석하였다. 분석결과, 국내 일간지들은 사건을 단순 전달하는‘사건 전달 프레임’, 학교폭력에 대한 대책을 다루는 ‘대책 강구 프레임’을 ‘원인 규명 프레임’보다 많이 사용한 것으로 나타났다. 분석된 3개 시기별로는 1시기에서사건 전달 프레임과 대책 강구 프레임이 비슷한 비중으로 사용된 반면, 15년 정도가 지난 3시기에서는 대책 강구 프레임의 비중이 약간 높았다. 대책강구 프레임의하부 프레임인 ‘감시-처벌 강화’ 프레임의 비중은 1시기에 비해 3시기에 대폭 줄어든 반면(1시기, 34.3%→3시기, 12.8%), ‘교육적 처방’ 프레임의 비중(1시기,5.6%→3시기, 12.4%)은 증가하였다. 교육전문지는 분석 대상 기사의 81.3%가 대책 강구 프레임을 사용한 것으로 나타났다. 아울러, 학교폭력 가해자와 피해자의대립구도를 다루는 기사에서는 정보 제공형 기사제목보다는 관심 유도형 기사제목의 사용 비중이 높았다.

This study analyzed Korean newspapers' coverage on school violence issue. This study utilized frame analysis technique on a total of 784 selected news articles from four daily newspapers that represent both conservative and progressive voices and two education magazines. The results shows that Korean newspapers mainly used governmental policy frame on school violence issue. The governmental policy frame was most frequently utilized in the progressive newspapers and the education magazine. Incident cause evaluation frame has increased from 1997 to 2012. However, Korean newspapers tended to convey incidents of school violence, or governmental policy without in-depth investigation. This study also showed the newspapers reported contrast of at tacker-victim of school violence emotionally, and used frequently attention-attracting headlines to attract readers' attraction. Finally, this study shows that Korean newspapers fail to interpret the problem of school violence in depth.
