이승만 집권기와 박정희 집권기의 동상 비교 연구

Abstract

오늘날 우리의 주변에 남아있는 한국 근대 인물 동상은 주로 이승만과 박정희 집권기에 건립된 것이다. 본 연구는 두 시기에 국가적인 차원으로 건립된 인물 동상을 비교 분석하는 것으로 각각의 집권기에 건립된 동상들에어떤 이데올로기를 어떻게 부여하였으며 그것이 어떤 차이를 지니고 오늘날까지 영향을 주는 요인은 무엇인지를 도출해내는 것을 목적으로 한다. 각 시기에 보도된 신문기사와 간행물을 연구의 주된 자료로 이용하였고 한국의 근대동상과 각 지도자의 정치이념에 관련한 문헌을 통해 연구를 진행하였다. 한국전쟁이라는 시대적 상황속에서 집권한 이승만은 친근한 우방의 이미지와 반공 이데올로기를 서양인 장군과 충무공을 통해 나타냈고 반일의 감정을 부여한 동상은 거의 제작하지 않았다. 이승만 집권기에 건립되지 못했던 항일 순국열사들의 동상은박정희 집권기에 국가적인 정책으로 설립된 애국선열조상건립위원회에 의해 건립되었다. 박정희는 이 단체를통해 전통적인 인물 동상을 다수 건립하였고 이것은 계몽을 위한 민족주의에 의한 것이자 그의 부족했던 정통성을 채우는 것이었다. 전통적인 인물을 이용하여 이념을 나타냈던 박정희는 본인의 권위 또한 충무공, 세종을통해 나타냈다. 하지만 이승만은 본인의 동상을 건립함으로 그의 권위를 직접 나타냈고 독재청산이라는 목적으로 훗날 모두 철거되었다. 동상에 부여된 이념 역시 중요하지만, 그 이전에 동상의 인물선정과 드러나는 형상이중요하게 작용한다는 사실을 본 연구를 통해 도출했다. 시대적인 흐름에 따라 인물 동상 역시 발전할 수밖에 없고 박정희 집권기의 동상이 더욱 다양하고 안정적일 수밖에 없는 것은 사실이다. 하지만 근대국가로 나아가기위한 정책의 하나로 건립된 근대 인물 동상이라는 것, 그리고 우리의 역사를 가시적인 무언가로 남기려는 시도였다는 것에서 두 집권기의 인물 동상에 의미가 있다.

The statues of Korean modern figures remaining around us today were mostly erected during LeeSeung-man's and Park Jeong-hee's administration. This research aims at comparing and analyzingthe figure statues put up on a national scale during the two administrations. Newspaper articlesand publications reported in each administration were used as the main materials of this study,and the research was conducted through the documents related to modern Korean statues and eachleader's political ideologies. Lee Seung-man, who came to power in the times of Korean War,expressed familiar images of allied nations and anti-communism ideology through a western generaland Chungmugong. Park Jeong-hee made many traditional figure statues erected with DeceasedPatriot Ancestor Committee, which was by nationalism for the purpose of enlightenment and alsofor the fulfillment of legitimacy that he had lacked. Park Jeong-hee, who expressed ideologies usingtraditional figures, also showed his own authority through Chungmugong and King Sejong. However,Lee Seung-man directly displayed his authority by making the statues of his own figure put up,and all of them have been pulled down later on the purpose of the elimination of dictatorship. Ithas been concluded through this study that even though the ideologies granted to the statues arealso important, before which, the selection of the figures for statues and shapes on display workimportantly. It's a fact that figure statues naturally develop with time, and the statues during ParkJeong-hee's administration were more various and stable. Yet, the figure statues during the twoadministrations are meaningful in that they were modern statues put up as a part of the policiesto progress toward a modern nation, and that it was the attempt to leave something tangible relatedto Korean history.
