This study aimed to verify physiological & psychological differences by life-style types of two groups of middle-aged women at the pre-menopause and post-menopause respectively. Thirty women aged 45~65years who have no medical disease were divided into three lifes-tyles-exercise, housewives & career women ,and each style was grouped by pre-menopause and post-menopause F. or the purpose of finding difference s in depression as a psychological factor and body composition (weight, body fat, lean body mass (LBM), body mass index (BMI) and srtess hormones (ACTH, Cortisol) as physiological factors, we condutced a 3x3x2 factor design analysis of Types (exercise, housewives, career women) x Groups (pre-menopause and postmenopause)along Times (before/8 weeks/16 weeks). In consequence, first, interaction of Times x Groups proved statistically meaningful in all of low-spirited feeling, high-spirited feeling, physical activity slowdown and personal relations as sub-factors of depression. Second, amongt he physiological factors, Times x Types &Times x Groups in case of weight and body fat, and Times x Types in case of BMI showed statistically significant interactions. Third, in stress hormones of ACTH & Cortisol, interaction of Times x Groupsturned out statistically meaningful. Consequently, it was thought that there are differences in depression and stress hormones between middle-aged women at the pre and post-menopause, however this study indicated there is no statistical meaning at the menopause. As a result, it was discovered that physiological & psychologaicl phenomena such as depression and stres s hormone increase come not from menopause itself but from change of life environment (life style) at the menopause. Therefore, regular and continuous exercise will have direct or indirect influences on women a t the menopause physiologically and psychologically and help them to keep and improve their health.-
