판본비교법과 중국어사 연구 — 《노자》 6종 판본 비교대조를 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구는 현존 최초의 출토문헌인 곽점본 《노자》와 후대 판본의 문자사용 현황을 비교대조하여 이문(異文)의 차이를 도출한 후 《노자》 제 판본의 이문 변화에 중국어 통사 변천의 흔적이 일정정도 반영되어 있음을 확인한 연구이다. 진한 이후의 판본에서 접속사 而의 점진적 감소, 조건복문 주절 주어 위치의 此의 감소 등은 중국어의 병렬구조에서 수식구조로의 유형 변화를 반영하고 있었고 主之謂 구조에서 之의 동한 이후의 감소는 상고중국어 시기 상용되던 명사표지의 중고중국어 이후의 쇠락을 반영하고 있었다. 조동사 可以의 동한 이후 판본에서의 可로의 교체, 是以의 진한 이후 판본에서의 故로의 점진적 교체 등은 可의 어법기능 변화와 접속사 是以 용법의 쇠락, 故 사용의 증가 등을 반영하고 있었다. 이러한 언어 변천 현상은 중고중국어 이후의 판본에서 그 특징이 명확하게 드러나는 경우가 대부분이었으나 일부 변화는 상고중국어 후기인 진한 이후의 판본에서도 점진적으로 시작되었다. 본고의 판본비교법이라는 연구방법과 이를 통해 도출해 낸 연구결과는 중국어사 문법 연구에 또 다른 접근 방식을 제시해 주고 있다.

This study compares how Chinese characters are used in Lao-Tzu of Guodian, the oldest version unearthed so far, and the five other texts that came later, finds differences in variant characters, and confirms that changes in variant characters in Lao-Tzu’s different texts have reflected some traces of the evolution of Chinese language syntax. For instance, the texts published since the Qin and Han Dynasties showed that the gradual removal of the conjunction ER (而) and the deletion of CI (此) in the subject of the main clause in conditional sentences reflected the Chinese language type changed from the coordinate structure to the modifier structure. The deletion of ZHI (之) in the ZHU-ZHI-WEI (主之謂) structure since the Eastern Han Dynasty reflected the decline of a nominal marker, which was commonly used during the Old Chinese period, in the Middle Chinese. In addition, the replacement of the auxiliary verb KE-YI (可以) with KE (可) in the texts published since the Eastern Han Dynasty, the gradual replacement of SHI-YI (是以) with GU (故) in the texts since the Qin and Han Dynasties reflected changes in the grammatical function of KE (可), a decline in the usage of the conjunction SHI-YI (是以), and an increasing usage of GU (故). Although most of these language evolution phenomena were evident in the texts since the Middle Chinese period, some changes gradually began in the texts since the Qin and Han Dynasties in the late Old Chinese period. The contrast method of texts and the findings identified from the method suggest another approach to grammar studies in Chinese language history.
