음악재능 청소년의 열정이 성취목적과 유능감에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구에서는 음악재능 청소년을 대상으로 이들의 열정, 성취목적, 유능감 간의 상호관련성을 살펴보고, 이들의 열정(조화열정, 강박열정)이 성취목적(숙달목적, 수행접근목적, 수행회피목적)과 유능감에 직․간접적으로 어떠한 영향을 주는지를 탐색하고자 하였다. 본 연구 대상은 예술계 고등학교 재학생들 중 650명의 음악전공 학생들이며, 이들 중 응답이 불성실한 51명을 제외한 599명을 최종 분석 대상으로 하였다. 본 연구 결과, 열정의 하위 요인들인 조화열정과 강박열정은 숙달목적, 수행접근목적 및 유능감과 유의미한 정적 상관을 보였으며, 조화열정만이 수행회피목적과 유의미한 부적 상관을 보였다. 또한 열정은 성취목적을 거쳐 유능감에 영향을 끼쳤는데, 구체적으로 조화열정은 숙달목적과 수행접근목적을 거쳐 유능감에 긍정적으로 영향을 끼쳤다. 반면에 강박열정은 숙달목적을 거쳐 유능감에 긍정적으로 영향을 끼쳤다. 본 연구 결과, 열정의 두 하위 요인 모두 유능감에 간접적으로 긍정적인 영향을 끼쳤으나, 강박열정에 비해 조화열정이 유능감 증진에 더 많은 긍정적인 영향을 끼치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 음악재능이 뛰어난 청소년들은 강박열정보다는 조화열정을 지닐 때, 전공활동에 몰입함으로써 새로운 전공지식의 향상은 물론 이로 인한 희열감을 더욱 많이 느끼게 되며, 더 나아가 이들의 유능감이 보다 많이 향상된다 하겠다.

This study was to analyze the casual relationships among musically talented adolescents' passion, achievement goals, and competence. Subjects were 599 musically talented adolescents attending arts high schools in a metropolitan school district, Korea. Their average age was 17.4 years. Measures of passion(harmonious and obsessive), achievement goals(mastery, performance-approach, and performance-avoidance), and competence were administered. Structural equation modeling techniques were used to test the relationships among the variables. It was found that musically talented adolescents' harmonious passion positively affected their competence via their achievement goals(i.e., mastery, performance-approach). It was also observed that their obsessive passion positively affected their competence via mastery goals only. Both harmonious and obsessive passions indirectly and positively affected competence. However, harmonious passion affected competence much greater than obsessive passion did. It seems that having a harmonious passion toward an enjoyable activity can facilitate individuals to pursue mastery and performance-approach goals and to eventually reach higher levels of competence.
