The purpose of the study is to investigate the beliefs of the elderly poor on usefulness of various methods for addressing depressive symptoms; and to draw implications of intervention specific to this group. Secondary data from adults of age between 60 and 74 were used. Beliefs on usefulness of various methods were compared between two groups of individuals whose minimum cost of living is either equal to or less than 150% of the Minimum Cost of Living, or over 150% of that criterion. The results showed that among the elderly respondents ways of addressing depressive symptoms were grouped into five categories: 'assertive problem solving', 'professional consultation', 'use of medication', 'escaping crisis', and 'negligence'. Depending on gender, depression, and recognition of depression, there were some statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of 'assertive problem solving', 'use of medication', and 'escaping crisis'. Implications of intervention for depression were discussed with a specific focus on the elderly poor.-
