Abstract

A Study on Self-Concept, Sensation Seeking and Runaway Experience among Adolescents in High School

Purpose: This study was done to identify the relationship between self-concept, sensation seeking, and runaway experience among adolescents. Method: The subjects were 1,102 adolescents in high school. Data was collected, using questionnaire survey based on convenience sampling. The data collected from March to April, 2006 were analyzed by the SPSS program, using descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and t-test. Results: In the case of having runaway experience, general, class-fulfillment, family, and emotional self- concept were higher than in the case of not having such experience. In every lower arear, sensation seeking appeared to be higher with having runaway experience. Conclusions: The findings of study suggest that self-concept and sensation seeking associated with runaway experience, providing useful for developing an intervention program focused on adolescents subject to psycho-social problems.
