Korean Journal of English Language and Linguistics 8-1, 51-73. The purpose of this study is to understand the features of storytelling performance using discourse coherence (Glosser & Deser, 1987) and cohesion (Liles, 1985). 13 college students performed different tasks of storytelling in this study. 39 samples from three storytelling tasks were transcribed and analyzed: personal photo description, wordless picture book narration and story stem. This study first explored in which categories cohesion markers (reference, conjunction, lexical) appeared in storytelling samples. Also, global dimension of coherence was examined in each sample. It was found that the samples elicited from storytelling tasks had similar features on cohesion and global coherence. It is hoped that this study helps teachers and material developers understand the meaningfulness of storytelling tasks in the model of oral language teaching.-
