개천예술제를 통해 본 1950∼60년대 신무용의 전개 양상 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 발단은 오늘날 신무용의 형태는 일제강점기 이래로 현재까지 여러 변화의 과정을 거쳐 온 것임에 주안하고, 변화의 모색이 본격적으로 진행되는 시기로 보이는 1950∼60년대에 주목하면서 시작되었다. 그러나 신무용을 ‘무대화된 한국춤’이라고 정의한다면 이 신무용은 최승희와 조택원과 같은 무용계 예술가들 뿐 아니라 한성준과 같은 전통예인들에 의해서도 연행되었음을 알 수 있다. 즉 신무용은 일제강점기부터 해방 후로도 얼마간 전통예인들에 의해서도 지속되었는데, 대표적으로 한성준의 제자이자 손녀인 한영숙과 그와 함께 활동했던 몇몇 전통예인들의 모습에서 찾을 수 있다. 전통예술가들은 무형문화재 제도가 시행되면서 국악분야의 문화재로 지정되는 1960년대부터 서서히 춤 활동이 미약해지는 모습을 보인다. 따라서 1960년대까지는 전통예술인들이 신무용을 연행했다고 할 수 있는데, 본고에서 연구 대상을 개천예술제로 설정하면서 무용계와 전통예술가들의 동시대 신무용 양상을 확인할 수 있게 되었다고 본다. 본 연구에서는 개천예술제에서 연행된 두 분야의 활동양상을 살피면서 1950, 60년대에 전개된 신무용의 한 단면을 조명해보고자 한다.

The beginning of this study began with the attention of the 1950s and 1960s, when the form of the new era was assumed to have undergone various changes since the Japanese occupation and has begun to be pursued in earnest. Traditional artists have gradually become less active in dance since the 1960s, when the intangible cultural property system was enacted and designated as cultural assets in the field of traditional music. Therefore, it can be said that until the 1960s, traditional arts artists carried out the new business. In this paper, I set up the research subject as the Gwangcheon art festival, and I can confirm the aspect of the contemporary duties of the dancers and traditional artists.
