- Abstract
- This study intends to investigate the quality and the worth of Kim Seung-og's novel by examining the inner form of the text which represents changing society by means of the analyzing the desire of the chracters.
The course of the development in Kim Seung-og's works corresponds gradually with the course of the writer himself's life who is growing from the childhood days right after the Korean war to an adult in the 1960's modern industrial capitalism. ‘The survival method of the dysphemism’ and ‘the mechanism of imitating of other people's a desire' that are found from the young hero in the Kim's short story 「乾」 make the regular pattern of the production of the text by repeating transitionally the same structure in the subsequent works ―「Life-Rehearsal」, 「Pocketbook of illusion」 and 「Traveler's journal on Moojin」.
Kim's novel makes mournfully clear through the inner form of the text which even the world that a person considers one's own is formed by imitating other's desire that seems to be more superior than oneself's and which the world of other's desire is formed also by absorbing the mechanism of the exchange that is dominating the society of the fetishism.
Kim's novel gets the sociological worth and the fictional truth in the mean that it captures through the form of a desire of the depraved chatacters the hidden social phenomenon of the period which the real liberation of the subject is impossible.
