Abstract
The pathogenic species of the genus Streptococcus were compared at the genomic genomic level by suppressive subtractive hybridization and rep-PCR fingerprinting to investigate genetic relatedness and establish the applicability for the identification. 15 clonal libraries of S. mitis KCTC 3556(T) different from S. pneumoniae KCTC 5080(T) showed signal transduction protein gene (n=7), extracellular protein gene (n=2), cell membrane associated protein gene (n=2) and hypothetical protein gene (n=3). 69 clonal libraries of S. pyogenes KCTC 3556(T) different from S. pneumoniae KCTC 5080(T) showed transposon (n=25), hypothetical protein gene (n=22), signal transduction protein gene (n=19) and extracellular protein gene (n=3). The dendrograms generated from ERIC-PCR fingerprint revealed that S. anginosus were separated from S. constellatus and S. intermedius with a degree of similarity 72%. Such an approach to comparative genomics could be applied to both studies of interspecies evolution and development of rapid identifications of pathogenic Streptococcus species.
