Recently, silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) have been recognized as potential candidates for the generation of novel antimicrobial agents. It is very important to create nanomaterials-based drug delivery carriers with antimicrobial behavior that may provide novel platforms for the treatment of various antimicrobial diseases. In this book chapter, we summarize the current status of Ag NPs technology for antimicrobial treatment and associated infectious diseases. The antimicrobial activity of silver nanoparticles along with the underlying mechanism will also be addressed; for instance, how does the size of metal nanoparticles play an important role in the inactivation of the microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, and viruses). Overall, this chapter offers an overview of the amazing achievements by Ag NPs in terms of antimicrobial properties on various microbial species. © 2019 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.-
