바리 이야기의 웹툰 수용 양상과 의미 고찰- Daum 웹툰 <바리공주>를 중심으로 -

Abstract

이 글은 웹툰 <바리공주>의 스토리텔링 전략을 분석하고, 그 의미를 원작 바리 이야기와 관련하여 살펴보았다. 웹툰 <바리공주>는 한 편의 이야기로서 내용의 보편성과 창의성, 행동의 통일성과 다양성, 서사정보의 공개와 숨김 등을 조율함으로서 익숙하지만 지루하지 않는 이야기를 만들어 내고, 이를 통해 독자들의 관심을 지속시키는 스토리텔링 전략을 구사하고 있다. 이러한 스토리텔링 전략은 전혀 새로운 것이 아니다. 독자의 관심을 끌기 위한 치열한 경쟁은 이야기의 보편적 속성이고, 이는 원작인 바리 이야기에도 내재되어 있다. 바리 이야기가 지닌 이러한 스토리텔링 전략은 바리 이야기가 오늘날에도 끊임없이 재생산될 수 있는 동인일 것이다.

This article analyzed the storytelling strategy of the webtoon, Princess Bari and examined its meaning as compared to the original story. As a webtoon, Princess Bari uses a traditional storytelling strategy to draw the reader’s attention. In other words, by coordinating the universality and ingenuity of the content, the unity and diversity of the action, and the disclosure and concealment of the narrative information, it creates a familiar yet original story, thereby engaging the interest of the readers. This storytelling strategy is not new. Fierce competition in attracting readers’ attention is a universal attribute of storytelling, which is also inherent in the original story of Princess Bari. This storytelling strategy will remain a constant source of the Bari story.
