Abstract
The purpose of this study is to suggest teaching methods for Chuimsae education in elementary school music class. It attempts to find a way to develop specific chuimsaes fit for the elementary school level of music and to actually have students try them with the textbook songs. The way that this study was conducted is as follows. First, the definition, kinds, timing, methods and vocal sounds of chuimsae were examined to discover whether it's worthwhile to be taught in elementary school. Then chuimsae class activities were designed in order of instruction levels, contents and teaching methods. Next, the songs appropriate for this activity were selected from the textbook. Finally, teaching methods were suggested according to different grades. The kinds of chuimsaes chosen here are the ones that the audience can try. They are compiled considering the level of elementary school students into four different categories, that is, encouragement, exclamation, sympathy and closing chuimsae. Most chuimsae activities suggested in the textbook have centered on singing so far, but for this study, it was extended to sanjo(solo instrumental music), traditional dance and children's songs. The goal of this education is to help students internalize such great Korean traditional values.
