The purpose of this study was intended to uncover a folk theory grounded in the perspectives and experiences of Korean mothers on their children’s American education. The narratives of two Korean mothers were collected through three-phased phenomenological interviews. The findings revealed that Korean mothers emphasized the importance of education that resonated with their cultural belief in education leading to success. They viewed American education as a means to master the English language and thereby to optimize their children’s futures. While the mothers recognized the disadvantages inherent in their children’s minority status within the American educational system, their desire for English competency helped them seek out strategic involvement practices at home. Implications for minority parent involvement are discussed.-
