- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to reconsider the meaning of Conjunctive Ending ‘ado(-아도)/eodo(-어도)/yeodo(-여도)’ for Chinese students learning Korean, most of whom misunderstand those words.
Take ‘ado(-아도)/eodo(-어도)/yeodo(-여도)’ for example, there are few studies about these words. Even though ‘ado(-아도)/eodo(-어도)/yeodo(-여도)’ appear frequently in the classical papers. And Korean grammar researchers’ opinions are also controversial. There are about more than eleven meaning of Conjunctive Ending ‘ado(-아도)/eodo(-어도)/yeodo(-여도)’ such as Truth neglect, Concessive, Opposition,Contrast, Assumption, Condition, admit, emphasis, addition, objection,denial of expectation. The variety of meanings can cause foreign learners’ confusion. Then this paper reconsiders the previous meanings to reduce the confusion. It will contribute to the foreigner learning Koreans.
There are some unreasonable explanations about Concessive, Truth neglect, Assumption, Opposition, Contrast. Then this paper reconsiders the previous meanings and examples and properly analyses the Conjunctive Ending ‘ado(-아도)/eodo(-어도)/yeodo(-여도)’.
Sum up the results of analysis as follows;1) The basic meaning of the Conjunctive Ending ‘ado(-아도)/eodo(-어도)/yeodo(-여도)’ is concessive.
2) It is general that ‘Concessive Conjunctive Ending’ used in antecedent clause. Escort clause is defined as an ending of a word which functions to connect a different or opposite result, unlike considered earlier.
3) The literal context meanings of Conjunctive Ending ‘ado(-아도)/eodo(-어도)/yeodo(-여도)’ are addition, emphasis, condition,contrast.
