Abstract
The male main characters in the serial works of <Hyeonmongssangryonggi> can be divided into two types: heroes and noble men. From the former work, dualistic personalities of a hero and a noble man can be found through the twin brothers, Jomu and Joseong while from the latter work, structural unity can be examined with the repetition of dualistic personality of a character through the classification of characters and repetition of similar couples’ conflict resulted from it. The types of characters in the serial works of <Hyeonmongssangryonggi> show the alternating aspects by generations centering around the eldest son in the family line of Jomu and Joseong. This reflects the divine will, the circulation and harmony of a hero and a noble man, just like the circulation and harmony of yin and yang. In other words, this implies that solidarity in the family is enhanced by establishing the character types of a hero and a noble man as complementary and circulative relationship. However, from the perspective of the central narrative, the repetition of character types shows the aspect of transformed repetition rather than alternation. It can be said that this shows the consciousness to succeed to a family based on the pursuit of a noble man.
