For the application of a green emitting phosphor to the backlight of an LCD-TV, a peak wavelength of 530 mu with good thermal resistance is known to be desirable. The full width at half maximum should be less than 70 mu for good color purity. It is found that the europium-doped (Sr,Ba,Zn)(3)Si6O3N8 phosphor system is suitable for this purpose. Paricularly, the optical properties of (Sr0.57Ba2.07Zn0.27)(3)Si6O3N8 : Eu-0.1 are good enough to be applicable to white LEDs.-
