dc.description.abstractAmmonium, nitrate, and phosphate discharged from non-point sources may flow into the groundwater and then result in the eutrophication of the receiving water. The objective of the present research was to test the performance of the natural zeolite and surfactant modified zeolite (SMZ) as barrier materials in order to remove cationic ammonium and anionic nitrate in groundwater by using permeable reactive barrier technique. In the initial 30 minutes, the adsorption of nitrate onto the SMZ was completed and the removal of nitrate using SMZ-Br was greater than that using SMZ-Cl. Simultaneous removal of ammoium and nitrate was possible when SMZ-Br was used. The Langmuir adsorption capacity of SMZ-Br to remove nitrate was 27 mmol/kg.-
