- Abstract
- The purposr of this paper is to discuss the EDI system for the customs procedure in Korea, particularly in respect to marine import cargo. I woud like to devide this paper into five chapters to meet that object.

Chapter Ⅱ introduced the clearance prodecure and system of marine import cargo in Korea
Chatper Ⅲ introduced the case analytics of EDI clearance-automation nced countries
Chapter Ⅳ discussed the improvement plan for EDI clearance-automatuon system in Korea
Chapter Ⅴ introduced the conclusion and summart of this paper.
To set up EDI system, first of all, it needs the standarization of documents, And pointing out the problems of Korean clearance system and suggeting the solution. I think it will be very helpful to found an effective EDI system. Thereforem to sumplify the clearance-procedure of marinf import cargo. I want to suggest as follows:
First, for the purposr of rapid enntry, it is necessary to establish the advance-import-declaration system, under the advanced-import-declaration system. And the batch system shoud be introduced to import traders for import declararion in part of regular cargo.
Second, to receive the advanced information relating to cargo, the cargo manufest and the like should br transmitted to the place of import customs directly fromthe port of shipment after the departure/
Third, the Cargo Selectivity System shoud be equipped to manage intensive control of Cargo Selectivity by the advanced information and the advance-import-declaration/
Fourth, EFT(Edlectric Fund Transfer) should be intrduced to pay import duties. This is the pre-requisite for the advanced-clearance and deferrd-payment system.
Fifth, at present installation-certification system of import cargo must be abolished and bonded transport application shoud be done before the arrival pf the cargo in order to take out directly after discharge.
After all, the basic direction of EDI system for import clearance automation, I think, is to go first the improvement of customs procedure and then to introduce the above-mentioned system, so to speak, advanced import declaration, cargo selectivity, the declaration of bonded transport before discharch, EFT connecting with KTNET sustem.
