The growth of private security has been remarkable in recent years. Although the growth of private security has been filling the gap of the police, it also brought a number of problems such as concerns over the quality of persons working in the industry and poor standards of operation. However, very few researches have been found with regard to the regulation of private security either in South Korea or in the United States. The purpose of this study is to compare and evaluate the regulation of private security in the United States and South Korea. This study also aims to suggest policy implications for the effective regulation of private security. © 2008 by The Haworth Press.-
